Special Circumstances for Undergraduates

Resources for Students who are Parents

Undergraduates who are parents face unique challenges in balancing their academic and parenting responsibilities. To support these students, our financial aid program offers assistance tailored to their specific needs when financial need is demonstrated.

  • Living Expenses. Stanford RD&E offers on-campus living options for students with children. The financial aid program helps with these increased expenses by using the standard graduate rent and food allowance to determine aid eligibility rather than the undergraduate rate. Students may also qualify for a dependent care allowance which also serves to increase eligibility for scholarship funds. The exact amounts awarded will be determined based on each individual’s circumstances.
  • Childcare expenses. The financial aid program will also consider childcare costs. With proper documentation, students may receive scholarship funds to cover amounts equivalent to up to two-thirds of the full-time co-op rate at the Children’s Center of the Stanford Community.

It is important to note that support from the financial aid program is designed to enable students to concentrate on their studies and will be provided only during periods of enrollment.
Students are encouraged to contact us to discuss their unique circumstances.
