Special Circumstances for Undergraduates

A Fifth Year

Undergraduates may be considered for Stanford scholarship in the first 12 quarters they are enrolled, including enrollment at other institutions and quarters for which a student did not receive financial aid.

  • You may apply for additional quarters of aid if you require extra time to complete the minimum requirements for your first bachelor’s degree due to academic or personal difficulties.
  • Your need-based aid package for enrollment beyond the standard twelve quarters will include a student loan expectation.
  • If you choose to enroll in additional quarters to pursue academic endeavors in addition to your bachelor’s degree, such as a coterminal program, minor, second major, second degree, B.A.S. degree, or retaking classes for which grades have already been received, you may be considered for loans, job eligibility, and federal grants. However, you are no longer eligible for Stanford scholarship.

To apply for aid beyond 12 quarters, submit an Academic Plan in addition to all other standard application requirements.
