Funding Options

Federal Work-Study Assistantships

Graduate students may be eligible for research or teaching assistantships that are partially funded by the federal government through the Federal Work-Study (FWS) program.

The application process varies by school and department, as follows:

School/Department Application Process

Humanities & Sciences
(PhD only)

Students must obtain recommendations from the Office of the Dean of Humanities & Sciences.

Art
(MA only)

Students must obtain recommendations from the Art Department administrator.

Engineering
(MS only)

Students must obtain recommendations from the Office of Student Affairs in the School of Engineering.

If you receive a recommendation to be considered for FWS eligibility, you should complete all application requirements under the Applying for Aid section and await confirmation of eligibility from the Financial Aid Office.  The filing requirements for FWS applicants are the same as for student loan applicants.
